About this retreat
JORGE FERRER and the HOLOTROPIA INSTITUTE offer a safe and sustained space for the exploration of expanded states of experience. Beyond the subtle encounter itself, the process invites us to recognize the paths through which these experiences can take root and find expression within our embodied lives. Spirituality is understood neither as an abstract idea nor as a separate domain, but as a dimension to be inhabited and practiced in everyday life. We thus learn to live the non-duality between inner experience and physical manifestation, recognizing both as an integrated expression of our human nature. Through transpersonal somatics, primal dance, breathwork, mandala art, and other integrative practices, we learn to inhabit the space where the material and the subtle reveal themselves as one and the same reality—allowing both dimensions to engage in dialogue and express themselves vibrantly within our daily experience.
Tradicional Medicine
Traditional medicine is the body of knowledge and health practices developed by different cultures. It understands health as an integral balance and makes use of resources such as medicinal plants, rituals, and community practices for care and well-being.
Professional Support
We are professionals trained in contemporary psychotherapeutic models, focused on the application of practical tools with the aim of fostering tangible transformation, emotional regulation, and holistic healing.
Integration Process
We explore pathways that allow us to process emotions and give meaning to learning in everyday life through somatic integration involving the body, movement, and the senses. We inhabit the process through bodily listening, allowing felt experience to reorganize organically, with love, patience, and respect for the unique rhythm of each individual process.
Traditional American Medicines
Andean Meditation
San Pedro (Huachuma) has been used for thousands of years in the Andes of Peru, Ecuador, and northern Chile by healers, sages, and Indigenous communities as a path of knowledge, healing, and spiritual connection. It is considered a master plant within a worldview rooted in complete harmony with nature.
Cacao Ceremony
It is a ritual and communal space where pure cacao is shared in its traditional form, ancestrally used in Mesoamerica as a heart-opening plant. The ceremony is often accompanied by music, chants, meditation, or gentle introspective practices. Cacao supports emotional openness, connection with oneself and the group, and creates a warm, held atmosphere for reflection, expression, and personal intention.
Rapé Ceremony
Rapé is a traditional Amazonian preparation made from powdered tobacco and administered through the nose. Its ceremonial use aims to cleanse, center, and ground attention. The experience is often intense on a sensory and bodily level, helping to clear the mind, connect with the present moment, and facilitate states of clarity and focus. It is generally used as a closing practice within broader ceremonial contexts.
Jorge Ferrer
“Spirituality does not lift us up to escape the world; rather, it invites us to descend into it, to touch life with our feet on the ground and an awakened heart.”
Jorge Ferrer, PhD, is an internationally recognized clinical psychologist, educator, and author. He holds a doctorate in Psychology and is a Teaching Researcher at the California Institute for Human Science (CIHS) in San Diego. He also served as a professor of psychology for more than 20 years at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco. He has developed a solid academic career in transpersonal psychology, consciousness studies, and spirituality, and is widely recognized for formulating the participatory approach and embodied spirituality—key theoretical and practical contributions that have reshaped the contemporary study of spirituality. Beyond his academic work, Jorge Ferrer is a spiritual inquirer who did not settle for observing human experience from a distance. His path has been guided by an essential question: how is spirituality lived when it is fully embodied in life? This inquiry led him to build bridges between transpersonal psychology, philosophy, and ancestral wisdom, proposing a vision in which the sacred does not rise to escape the world, but descends in order to inhabit it. Recognized as one of the leading figures in modern transpersonal psychology, his work invites us to understand spiritual experience not as an abstract idea, but as a living process expressed through relationships, social engagement, and everyday life. His legacy points toward a horizon in which spiritual transformation is measured not by what is transcended, but by how one lives, loves, and participates responsibly in the world.
